Productive Weekend!

White Peony WIP 11x14 Watercolor

Springer Spaniel WIP 8x10 watercolor

Iris WIP 11x14 watercolor

Started 3 this weekend, plus worked on my fish and sticks project for the Bloomin Artists in Hampton at the end of July. Its actually kinda cool to think outside the box for a change. They give you a wooden base 3 different size wooden fish and sticks, you can add or take away what ever you want, the possibilities are endless, what ever your imagination can come up with. When it is all done I will post a picture.

Resting Spot WIP Completed

I just finished my little beetle (bug, not sure what type) he is sitting on a lupin leaf enjoying the sun. I glazed over the background and leaves again using ultra blue and a blue green for the leaves (yellow green for front leaves). Finished off the leaves and the beetle and added some cad yellow light on the sunlit areas.

WIP Resting Spot Update 4

Here it is with the mask removed, now i will go in and soften the lines adding color and finishing the painting.

WIP Resting Spot Update 3

I glazed the background again with ultra blue, started defining the leaves combinations of ultra blue, lemon yellow and hookers green plus a little burnt sienna and thalo blue. I will be removing the masking fluid next. Thanks for following my blog, I hope you find this helpful or interesting or both lol, take care

WIP Resting Spot Update 2

Added a layer of Ultramarine blue to the background and darker parts of the leaves. Then I glazed hookers + B. Sienna on the background establishing some of my darks (probally will still glaze this some more) Started putting some color on the beetle (Ultra blue and some orange on the beetles back)

WIP Resting Spot

After it was dry I then added a wash of cerulean blue on the background and dropping in more lemon yellow on the background /leaves.

I was drawn to this little beetle and the way the light was falling on the leaves (lupin). After I used masking to save some whites I put a wash of lemon yellow all over.

Just Starting to Bloom! Peony WIP Complete

Finished this just a few minutes ago, now its back to the drawing board lol. I wonder what will inspire me tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great night!
Thanks for looking,
Krista

WIP Peony update 4

Getting closer, layering over the darker areas to get the depth, also adding some violets.
I am absolutely in love with peonies, they are so beautiful can't wait to get his one done!

WIP Peony update 3

I glazed over the background again and then lifted out the highlights on the leaves. This is the point where I like to have my darkest darks done, I find it makes it easier to get the rest of the values right. I have introduced Caput Mortum into my mixes with my roses and reds.
I paint each petal separately so i can graduate the values giving it more depth.

WIP Peony update 2

Put another layer on the background (bamboo green, ultramarine and a little lemon yellow)
Started putting in the darkest spots on flower, Quin red for darker on petals and some ultra and quin red for inner dark spaces. This is all I will do tonight (unless i wake up at 1am again).
See you all tomorrow, have a great night!

Latest WIP Peony

I wasn't sure last night what i would work on next. I went out to my garden this morning and my peony blooms were just starting to open, and that's all it took. Peonies are such a beautiful flower I just couldn't resist. Started this one with some permanent rose and ultramarine for the flower and some bamboo green and ultramarine for the background.

Finished: Iris from My Garden

Finished the Iris i was working on, now i have to start a few new ones. I might do some still life or maybe some more dogs. I will have to go through my reference photos as i won't be able to get outside for inspiration ( next 4 days it will rain ) .
This Iris is one from my garden, can't wait until my lilies bloom.
I just bought a beautiful orange/yellow iris the other day at the garden shop, now it just needs to bloom.

WIP Update Lupin

Finished the Lupin this morning. This blog sure helps in the motivation department. I find I am painting more than usual, can't wait to post on my blog. This is also a flower that i took from my grandmothers garden. She always had Lupins for as long as I can remember, my grandfather was the gardener of the two, he would spend hours tending to them when I was little. I used to love following him around.

My Latest WIP

My latest 2 paintings are just in the starting stage. I like to have a few on the go so when one is drying I have something else to work on. Flowers seem to be the main theme lately (must be time of year)

Daffodils Final Post

Finally finished Daffodils, I got half way through and decided i would like to add some pastel (might be the sunshine! dying to get out and do some plein air). Not my usual style, but i hope you like them.

11x14 watercolor and soft pastel.

Ready for Tea

I love this composition, it was painted from a photo that I got at wetcanvas from Ellen in Ont. I normally like to paint my own compositions, but i really liked this one and could not resist.

Daffodils WIP Step 4

Added another layer of burnt sienna on the background, lately i seem to be doing very dark backgrounds, love the contrast against the flowers. Added some more yellows, and more french ultramarine for the shadow areas. Starting to get to the home stretch hoping to have these done today or tomorrow.

Finally finished my peony today. This is a peony plant that i took from my grandmothers yard after she passed away, she was a very loving and wonderful grandmother, and i know this painting would be her favorite. I also did some work on my daffodils today, might get a chance to post them later.

Daffodil WIP Update 3

Got out of bed last night at 1 am to work on these, sometimes I just have to paint. Started putting more of the yellows and darks in. I will probally glaze the background again and continue to develope the shadows.

Final Resting Place.

Watercolor 16x20. Here is my true love, Rust. I am not sure why but I love the look and feel of it. As you will see I tend to always come back to rusted broken and reclaimed items.

I Dare You!

Watercolor 8x10. I enjoyed doing the Cocker Spaniel so much I decided to do a Pug, these are fantastic little dogs with such great personalities. I love them!

CockerSpaniel.

I will be adding my previous art first before i start posting what i am presently working on. This archive is to track my journey as an artist for myself and anyone who would like to join me. I hope I can learn from this journey and find inspiration, and i hope to pass that onto anyone who is inspired by my art.

This painting is of a CockerSpaniel named Sandy, who is a very gentle soul. He is blind and not in the best of shape, this was one of my favorite ones to do that is why I posted it first.
