WIP Clematis Not done yet - Update 4

OK so much for getting it done quickly, painting big really takes a lot of time, and I still have a ways to go. I put another layer on the background and threw in a little burnt sienna, violet and magenta to help darken it down. I used Quin Magenta, Quin violet, Ultra Blue, Diox violet and a little indigo for the petals, I am happy with the progress so far and find they are starting to come to life, but they still have a ways to go. Hopefully my next post will be soon and titled Finished! Thanks for looking, have a great night!

WIP Clematis Still a ways to go yet - Update 3

I have darkened the background down, one more layer should probably do it, I have my first layer done on all my petals. So far the colors I have used are Indigo (background), quin magenta + ultra blue, diox violet (petals) and a little trans yellow (background). I will start refining the petals next and then move onto the center and darken the rest of the background after that. There is still quit a bit of work left to be done on this one, hopefully I can get it done quickly and start a new one : ) . Thursday I am going back to Kingsbrae Gardens to take some more reference photos, (can not wait) It was hard getting really good ones last time as I had my daughter and parents with me. This time I can set up the tripod and really plan my compositions.

WIP Clematis starting the Petals - Update 2

Started working on some of the petals using, quin magenta, Ultra Blue, diox violet, and indigo in the very darkest parts, still a long ways to go, but I am really enjoying working big. I will probably work some more on the background next so I can judge the depth need for the dark on the petals better. Hopefully I will be able to post an update later today. I hope every one has a fantastic and creative day!

WIP Clematis starting the background - Update 1

Started adding some of the dark to the background with indigo added some more trans yellow where the leaves will be. Not sure why my camera is not taking very good pictures of this painting, I will have to move it out to the other room to photograph it next time.

WIP Clematis 26 x 18 Started

The picture is not that great but it will give you an idea of the format and composition. This is my biggest one yet at 18x26 on 300lb cold press paper. I started with a wash of trans yellow on the background and a little quin magenta on the edge of the petal. Hopefully can post some progress later tonight. i am very excited to see how it turns out this big.

Cone Flower - Finished again for the second time!

OK so I looked at for about 10 minutes lol and there was something that just did not sit right. I found the background was too bright and wa competing with the flower. I added a wash of Quin red over the background to tone down the green, I also put some quin red on the petals and some on the top of the flower, I also darkened the shadows with some Ultra Blue. I will look at it some more, but I think it is done again! maybe lol

WIP Cone Flower - Finished!

I used mixtures of perm rose, Ultra blue and Quin Magenta to finish off the petals, I softened the background more and I used some Quin Magenta and Quin red + Hansa yellow to finish the center. I am going to call this finished, I like to look at them for a few days, sometimes I will leave it out in my front room so as I am coming and going I can look and see if there is anything I want to change. Hope everyone has a fantastic day! Thanks for taking the time to look and comment I really appreciate it!

I worked some more on the petals and started the center of the flower by adding some perm rose and in the shadow area perm rose + sepia, I also finished the stems and darkened spot in the background with this mixture.

I started to fill in some petals with perm rose and a little ultra blue for shadow.
