Night Photography - The Pulp Mill

Painting and creating art will always be my first love, but a close second is photography. I have never posted any of my photos on my blog. I was looking for a good reference to paint and I came across one of my favorite pictures so I thought I would share it. This is the Pulp Mill in Saint John shot at night. i am still working on my 2 paintings and planning my next ones, I will post some progress soon! Have a great night :)

2nd of 2 Watercolor Paintings I am Working on - Admission - update 2

I have removed most of the masking and I am starting to put in all of the small shadows before doing the final shadow on the front of the building, the interior door still needs to be darkened some more and the foreground needs more work. Still a ways to go, but I am slowly getting there! Have a great weekend everyone! : )

1 of 2 Watercolor Paintings I am Working on - The 3 Little Goats update 2

Starting to make some progress on the 3 goats, their form is starting to take shape, I will probably finish the background first as it is in the shadow.

2nd of 2 Watercolor Paintings I am Working on - Admission - update 1

Starting to get some depth with the addition of the shadowed interior of the office.
Again this is the Admission Office for Kingsbrae Garden in St. Andrews New Brunswick, if you ever get a chance to go it is a very inspirational spot.

Worked a bit on the 3 Goats, just establishing their shape and the darks, I will work on the background next.

Cardinal Watercolor Painting - Finished for the 2nd Time!

I decided not only was the picture bad (poor lighting) but the background was way too warm. I put a glaze of FUB on most of the background and a little more red on the Cardinal, I find this works much better. It is funny how if you go away from a painting and then look at it again you see something completely different. What do you think, does this background work better? thanks for looking

2nd of 2 Watercolor Paintings I am Working on - Admission

Again, I picked this one for the light and shadow, also I loved that you could see out through the inside door. This is 11x14 on CP Paper. This is the Admission Office for Kingsbrae Garden.

1 of 2 Watercolor Paintings I am Working on - The 3 Little Goats

This is one of the ones I am working on right now, my poor little goats look a little deformed (I will adjust them as I go along) I really like this shot because of the strong light and shadow, it is hard to see right now but as I progress you will be able to see it easier. This is 11x14 on 200lb CP paper

Cardinal Watercolor Painting - Finished!

I really took too long on this painting, I have never had problems like this with paper before, I should have started over as soon as I realized something was wrong... oh well it is done now. I am glad to be moving on, I will try to post the two new ones I am working on later tonight or tomorrow. Thanks for stopping in, have a great night!

Kreativ Blogger Award

I was given the Kreativ Blogger award again, this time from Stephie Butler a wonderful Artist, be sure to check out her blog White Rose Gallery. Thank you Stephie it is an honor that you feel I am deserving of this award! I will pass this along a little later when I have some time :)

Cardinal Watercolor Painting - WIP Update 2

I worked some more on the bird and background, still has a long way to go. The back ground looks a little greener in this picture than it actually is in real life. Hope everyone has a great night!

Monarch Watercolor Painting - Finished

Finished this late last night, I am happy with it considering the problems I had with the paper. Still working on the Cardinal, hopefully will be finished by tonight. I still have to plan the next ones, I have a few ideas. Thanks for stopping in, have a great day!  : )

Cardinal Watercolor Painting - WIP Update 1

Worked more on the background and the bird, this paper is from thew same sheet as the Monarch so I am having to be more careful with this one as well, I am thinking that maybe this sheet did not receive any external sizing, oh well we will see.. I will finish the backgrounds on these 2 next to make sure I am not wasting my time with the details.

Monarch Watercolor Painting - Update 1

I worked some more on the background, started putting in a hit of the flowers and put another layer of orange on the wings... I am struggling with this paper, I must check my other sheets and see if they are all right, if not I will have to contact the art store where I bought them. I am very surprised I have never had a problem with Arches paper before this  : (

Cardinal Watercolor Painting - Started WIP

I love Cardinals (and just about any other bird lol). This is on the Arches 140lb paper that seems to have a problem with the sizing, cross your fingers for me and hope that these work out and do not have to be started over again (if I was smart I would start over now). It was funny yesterday as I was drawing this little guy out, I saw a flash of color out my window, when I looked there was a cardinal sitting in my evergreen (by the time I got my camera he was gone) just as beautiful and red as any I have seen.

Monarch Watercolor Painting Started

I finally started this Monarch Butterfly along with my Cardinal last night, I started these while I was out painting at my friend Jocelyn's house, so I could only get pictures of what I had done when I got home. I am using Arches 140lb CP paper, I have used this many times it used to be my paper of choice. I think I got a bad batch of paper or at east a bad piece, it seems way too soft almost as if all the sizing if off. Hopefully I can work with it and wont have to start these 2 paintings over.

Watercolor Painting Goldfinch - Finished!

Just finished the Goldfinch, hopefully i will be able to start my Cardinal tonight, I have a few others to draw out also. I find I need at least 3 on the go to be productive (to much time spent waiting to dry). Hope everyone has a great night thanks for stopping by!

Watercolor Painting Work in Progress WIP - Goldfinch Update 2

I added another glaze to the background and started to define the body. Lifted out some highlights and added some of the shadow, still a ways to go.

Watercolor Painting Work in Progress WIP - Blue Jay Finished!

Just finished my Blue Jay a few minutes ago, I ended up putting another glaze over the background.  I am still working on my Goldfinch and am starting a Cardinal and more flowers. Hope everyone has a great night, thanks for stopping in and looking!

Watercolor Painting Work in Progress WIP - Blue Jay Update 4

I have started to add some of the details to the wing and tail feathers, this is almost done. Another layer of blue, darken down the shadows,  and tweak the eye and beak and it should be good. hope everyone has a great night!

Watercolor Painting Work in Progress WIP - Goldfinch Update 1

I decided it was time to add some color to the bird so I could get a sense of the background before finishing it. Hoping to finish the Blue Jay and most of this little guy today.

Watercolor Painting Work in Progress WIP - Goldfinch

Along with the Blue Jay I am working on I also have a Goldfinch started, this is another smaller one only 8x10. The background is close to being done just needs a little more dark in areas and the leaves on tree have to be finished.

I was Awarded the Kreativ Blogger Award!

I was given the Kreativ blogger award by Saundra Galloway at the end of Sept (OK I am a little slow lol) and then by Christaine Kingsley in October. thank you for thinking of me Saundra and Christiane :)

Here is how it works:

Remember the rules for the Kreativ Blogger award is to list 7 things about you (so we can get to know you a bit better) and pick 7 deserving artists to pass it along to. Notify them and link to them from your blog.

Here we go 7 things about me:

1. I am consumed by my art, have a need to create that cannot be quieted.
2. I wish there were more hours in a day (then I could paint more)
3. My favorite color is green.
4. I am married and have one daughter. (just learning to drive :0)
5. I am an animal lover, have been from an early age.
6. I have 2 dogs (the boys as I call them) you can meet them in my Oct 16, 2009 post.
7. I know that my true calling in life is to be an artist! :)

I would like to pass the award along to these 7 artists (there are so many more that are deserving, but the rules say 7 ):

2. Dors

Please take the time to visit their blogs and see why I have picked them! Thank you to all of these wonderful artists and all of the others not listed here that have made this blogging community the wonderful supportive place that it is. Hope everyone has a fantastic day!
